The inversion suggest a correction of -1.5 ppm, and the mean of the crossovers
is 2.1 ppm. This is below the 5 ppm threshold.
No adjustment needed.

GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is +1.1 ppm.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests no significant adjustment (-3.2 +/-6.5
ppm).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
13 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is +0.1 (+/-3.7)
ppm.
2 cross overs show significant differences (>5 ppm), but they involve cruises
that are thought to have significant offsets in salinity. When the suggested
offsets are taken into account, the average of all cross overs is +1.1 (+/-2.3)
ppm. This suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for salinity.

The inversion suggest an adjustment of 2.8, and the mean of the two crossovers
is -1.1. This is clearly below the 4 umol/kg threshold.
No adjustment needed.

GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is -4.0 umol/kg.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests no significant adjustment (+1.4 +/-1.9
umol/kg).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
9 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is -2.2 (+/-6.7)
umol/kg.
All cross overs but 1 show no significant differences (<4 umol/kg) and involve
cruises that are thought to have no significant offset in TCO2. When the offset
suggested for the cruise 35MF20030123 is taken into account, the average of all
cross overs is -0.6 (+/-2.1) umol/kg. This suggests that no adjustment would be
required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for TCO2.

The inversion suggest an adjustment of 4 uml/kg, but the average of the two
crossovers is -1.7. This is below the 6 umol/kg threshold.

09AR19941213 - alkalinity
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is -8.8 umol/kg.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that a small adjustment could be required
(+4.8 +/-2.5 umol/kg).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
6 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is -6.3 (+/-7.9)
umol/kg.
3 cross overs show no significant differences (<5 umol/kg) and involve cruises
that are thought to have no significant offset in alkalinity. When the offsets
suggested for the other cruises are taken into account, the average of all cross
overs is +2.4 (+/-2.7) umol/kg. This suggests that no adjustment would be
required.
However, it should be noted that different results were obtained depending on
longitudes: slightly larger offsets are obtained from the 4 cross overs found
between 130°E-150°E with an average of +4.1 (+/-1.4) umol/kg, compared to the 2
cross overs found between 110°E-120°E showing no significant differences with
cruises that are thought to have no significant offset in alkalinity.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses disagree, but only small corrections are
suggested. The global inversion suggests that an adjustment of +5 umol/kg could
be required, which is not coherent with the PI’s recommendation to decrease
alkalinity by 4.6 umol/kg (Bronte Tilbrook, personal communication). The latter
adjustment is coherent with the regional analysis that suggests an adjustment of
about -4 umol/kg for data collected between 130°E-150°E, while no adjustment
would be required for data collected between 110°E-120°E.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for alkalinity.

GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 1.022.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that an adjustment of 1.03 could be
required (1.026 +/-0.023).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
12 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is 1.024
(+/-0.050).
4 cross overs show no significant differences (<2%) and 3 of them involve
cruises that are thought to have no significant offset in phosphate. When the
offsets suggested for the other cruises are taken into account, the average of
all cross overs is 1.014 (+/-0.017).
The large scatter around the mean is due to the 3 cross overs found between
110°E-120°E that show an average of 0.987 (+/-0.006), whereas the 9 cross overs
found between 130°E-150°E show an average of 1.023 (+/-0.005).
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses disagree. The global inversion suggests that an
adjustment 1.03 could be required, which is not coherent with the PI’s
recommendation for no change (Bronte Tilbrook, personal communication). The
regional analysis shows different offsets between 110°E-120°E and between
130°E-150°E suggesting no adjustment or a small adjustment (0.98), respectively.
Given the large uncertainty associated with the analyses above, I suggest no
adjustment for phosphate.

0.993.
No adjustment needed.

09AR19941213 - phosphate

The inversion suggest a correction of 1.08, and the mean of the two cross-overs
is 0.921. It is clear that the silicate values is lower than that of the two
other cruises in this area contained within GLODAP (320619960503 and
316N199411201). CARINA suggest an adjustment of 1.03.
We suggest an adjustment of 1.08, in line with the inversion and the crossovers.

09AR19941213 - silicate
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 0.982.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that an adjustment of 1.05 could be
required (1.049 +/-0.026).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
13 cross overs were analyzed, but 2 are discarded due to large uncertainty (with
cruises 320619960503 and 316N19941201). The average of the 11 cross overs is
0.991 (+/-0.050).
All cross overs show significant differences ranging from 1.033 to 1.0.129 and
none of them involve cruises that are thought to have no significant offset in
silicate. When the suggested offsets are taken into account, the average of the
11 cross overs is 0.968 (+/-0.003). This suggests that an adjustment of 1.03
could be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses suggest low silicate values, but different
adjustments are proposed: 1.05 or 1.03, respectively. The lower adjustment is
preferred because of the large uncertainty associated with the global inversion.
Based on this I suggest an adjustment of 1.03 for silicate.

09AR19941213 - silicate
The inversion suggest a correction of 1.08, and the mean of the two cross-overs
is 0.921. It is clear that the silicate values is lower than that of the two
other cruises in this area contained within GLODAP (320619960503 and
316N199411201). CARINA suggest an adjustment of 1.03.
We suggest an adjustment of 1.08, in line with the inversion and the crossovers.

09AR19941213 - oxygen
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 0.993.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests no significant adjustment (0.999
+/-0.006).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
13 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is 0.997
(+/-0.021).
6 cross overs show no significant differences (<1%) and involve cruises that are
thought to have no significant offset in oxygen. When the offsets suggested for
the other cruises are taken into account, the average of all cross overs is
0.998 (+/-0.003). This suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for oxygen.

09AR19941213 - phosphate

GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 0.998.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests no significant adjustment (1.004
+/-0.013).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
13 cross overs were analyzed. The average of the 4 considered cross overs is
1.000 (+/-0.022).
9 cross overs show no significant differences (<2%) and involve cruises that are
thought to have no significant offset in nitrate. When the offsets suggested for
the other cruises are taken into account, the average of all cross overs is
0.999 (+/-0.007). This suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for nitrate.

09AR19941213 - tco2

09AR19941213 - salinity
