Autogenerated CTD salinity and CTD oxygen update
Automated update! This overwrites adjustment values (and flags) of CTDoxy and
CTDsal with the values from BOTsal and BOToxy for every cruise, unless CTDsal
(or CTDoxy) is not present or bad.
Salinity action ID:3; no CTD salinity data. Setting CTD salinity offset to -999,
QC flag removed.
Oxygen action ID:3; no CTD oxygen data. Setting CTD oxygen offset to -999, QC
flag removed.

18HU19820228 - tco2
These data are of too poor quality to be included in the synthesis. Comparison
of these data with tCO2 estimated from a MLR based on Nordic Seas TTO-NAS data
(using theta, salinity, nitrate and silicate) revealed offsets which were not
constant throughout this cruise. See Nordic Seas tco2 assessment report at
http://carboocean.ifm-geomar.de/postings/list, in particular page 9.
I have also uploaded the specific figure showing the residuals as a function of
various variables, clearly residuals change with station numbers,

18HU19820228 - tco2
Average offsets:
16.90 (automatic)
16.90 (manual)
Average offsets from xovers with Core Cruises:
0.00 (automatic)
0.00 (manual)
Inversion Results:
-15.63 WLSQ
-16.01 WDLSQ
Comments: The data shows large scatter but the offsets are consistently large
except with cruise 57 where the offset is even larger. The xovers are not of
good quality
But the adjustment from the inversion will improve the agreement between
cruises
Suggested adjustment: -16.01
quality: poor

18HU19820228 - alkalinity
These data are of too low quality to be included in the synthesis. They are
significantly offset and as described in the Nordic Seas alkalinity summary
document page 11: when compared to alkalinity data estimated from the alk-S
relationship derived using the 316N20020530 cruise, the residuals vary with
station number. Since tco2 are poor as well, there is little reason to salvage
these data. The Nordic Seas alkalinity report is available at
http://carboocean.ifm-geomar.de/postings/download/104357, and the residuals
figure have been uploaded below as well

18HU19820228 - cfc11
The recommended upward adjustment is based on the saturation difference between
CFC-11 and CFC-12, and the result from the inversion, where the latter gave a
clearly larger offset for CFC-11 compared with CFC-12. See full assessment

18HU19820228 - oxygen
These data were included in the CARINA Nordic Seas oxygen analyses. The analyses
indicated that no adjustment were required for these data.
The report is available at http://carboocean.ifm-geomar.de/postings/list

18HU19820228 - salinity
Nordic Seas salinity data analyses indicated that these data were not offset.

18HU19820228 - cfc11
The recommended upward adjustment is based on the saturation difference between
CFC-11 and CFC-12, and the result from the inversion, where the latter gave a
clearly larger offset for CFC-11 compared with CFC-12. See full assessment
report at:

18HU19820228 - alkalinity
These data are of too low quality to be included in the synthesis. They are
significantly offset and as described in the Nordic Seas alkalinity summary
document page 11: when compared to alkalinity data estimated from the alk-S
relationship derived using the 316N20020530 cruise, the residuals vary with
station number. Since tco2 are poor as well, there is little reason to salvage
these data. The Nordic Seas alkalinity report is available at
http://carboocean.ifm-geomar.de/postings/download/104357, and the residuals
figure have been uploaded below as well

18HU19820228 - tco2
These data are of too poor quality to be included in the synthesis. Comparison
of these data with tCO2 estimated from a MLR based on Nordic Seas TTO-NAS data
(using theta, salinity, nitrate and silicate) revealed offsets which were not
constant throughout this cruise. See Nordic Seas tco2 assessment report at
http://carboocean.ifm-geomar.de/postings/list, in particular page 9.
I have also uploaded the specific figure showing the residuals as a function of
various variables, clearly residuals change with station numbers,

18HU19820228 - tco2
Average offsets:
16.90 (automatic)
16.90 (manual)
Average offsets from xovers with Core Cruises:
0.00 (automatic)
0.00 (manual)
Inversion Results:
-15.63 WLSQ
-16.01 WDLSQ
Comments: The data shows large scatter but the offsets are consistently large
except with cruise 57 where the offset is even larger. The xovers are not of
good quality
But the adjustment from the inversion will improve the agreement between
cruises
Suggested adjustment: -16.01
quality: poor

18HU19820228 - salinity

adjustment result thus ignored
