pH details from A. Borges:
pH measurements were carried out with a combined electrode (Metrohm 6.0232.100), calibrated on the Total Hydrogen Ion Concentration Scale, using TRIS (2-amino-2-hydroxymethyl-1,3-propanediol) and AMP (2-aminopyridine) buffers prepared at a salinity of 35 following Dickson (1993, Marine Chemistry 44, 131-142), and using the pK for TRIS given by DelValls and Dickson (1998, Deep-Sea Research Part I 45, 1541-1554), and the pK for AMP given by Dickson (1993, Marine Chemistry 44, 131-142). pH was corrected to in-situ temperature using total alkalinity data, and the dissociation constants for carbonic acid given by Mehrbach et al. (1973, Limnology and Oceanography 18:897-907) as refitted by Dickson and Millero (1987, Deep-Sea Research Part I 34:1733-1743).

35MF19990104 - salinity
GLOBAL ANALYSIS:
No cross over for the global inversion (no station found for comparison within
200 km).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
Only 1 cross over was analyzed which shows a difference of -1.7 (+/- 4.5) ppm
(this cruise - INDIGO1). Given that the cruise INDIGO1 is thought to have no
offset in salinity, this suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
Based on the only one cross over with the cruise INDIGO1 I suggest no adjustment
for salinity.

35MF19990104 - tco2
This TCO2 data is very low.
There is only one cross-over with INDIGO, which gives an offset of 53 umol/kg.
The stadard deviation of the offset is good. As INDIGO received an adjustment of
-10 umoml/kg, TCO2 of 35MF19990104 should be corrected upward by 43 umol/kg.
I propose an adjustment of +43 umol/kg for TCO2 of cruise 35MF19990104.

35MF19990104 - alkalinity
GLOBAL ANALYSIS:
No cross over for the global inversion (no station found for comparison within
200 km).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
Only 1 cross over was analyzed which shows a difference of -19.1 (+/- 3.7)
umol/kg (this cruise - INDIGO1). Given that the cruise INDIGO1 is thought to
have high alkalinity values by about 16 umol/kg as suggested in this study, no
adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
Based on the only one cross over with the cruise INDIGO1 I suggest no adjustment
for alkalinity.
It should be noted however that if an offset of +6.5 mol/kg is used for INDIGO1
as suggested in GLODAP, rather than +16 umol/kg as suggested here, an adjustment
of 12.6 would be required

these 35MF cruises for Silicate, and by this stage will happily just accept
anything Clair suggested for them.

35MF19990104 - oxygen
GLOBAL ANALYSIS:
No cross over in the global inversion (no station found for comparison within
200 km).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
Only 1 cross over was analyzed which shows a ratio of 1.005 (+/-0.07) (this
cruise / INDIGO1). Given that the cruise INDIGO1 is thought to have no offset in
oxygen, this suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
Based on the only one cross over with cruise INDIGO1 I suggest no adjustment for
oxygen.

35MF19990104 - silicate
GLOBAL ANALYSIS:
No cross over in the global inversion (no station found for comparison within
200 km).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
Only 1 cross over was analyzed which shows a ratio of 1.006 (+/- 0.22) (this
cruise / INDIGO1). Given that the cruise INDIGO1 is thought to have no offset in
silicate, this suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
Based on the only one cross over with cruise INDIGO1 I suggest no adjustment for
silicate.

35MF19990104 - nitrate
GLOBAL ANALYSIS:
No cross over in the global inversion (no station found for comparison within
200 km).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
Only 1 cross over was analyzed which shows a ratio of 0.995 (+/- 0.011) (this
cruise / INDIGO1). Given that the cruise INDIGO1 is thought to have no offset in
nitrate, this suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
Based on the only one cross over with cruise INDIGO1 I suggest no adjustment for
nitrate.
