58AA19940203 - 2008-06-17 14:28:40 - version: 0Posted on 2008-06-17 14:28:40 - last updated on 2008-06-17 14:28:40 as version number 0
4/21/05 Initialized README file
Data from Kozyr 5/11/04; Replaced with data from Skjelvan 7/5/05
Ship and cruise designation: Haakon Mosby; 58AA9402_1
Cruise dates: 2/3 - 2/23/1994
EXPOCODE: 58AA19940203
Chief Scientist: Johannessen
16 stations; with 12 place Rosette
Hydro: Who - O.M. Johannessen; Status - not corrected; S Plus - up to date
Notes: CTD salt values used for calculations
12 CTD salt values flagged 4
7/15/05 added bottle salt values and real bottle numbers (except for
records 71:75 where bottle # fabricated)
Significant difference between CTD and bottle salts
Nuts/O2: Who - T. Johannessen; Status - corrected; S Plus - up to date
Notes: Samples preserved with chloroform and analyzed after
1-2 months via Skalar Autoanalyzer. Some flags applied
by Skjelvan. No silicate data. O2 values in CARINA file
differ from Skjelvan version by 0.1 to 0.4umol/kg (these are
CARINA oxygen).
TCO2: Who - Anderson/Johannessen/Skjelvan; Status - corrected; S Plus - up to date
Notes: Scatter of ~10umol/kg
Deep values bit lower than neighboring TTO values, but within
expected uncertainty
SOMMA/coulometer with precision better than 3umol/kg. CRM used
TA: Who - Anderson/Johannessen/Skjelvan; Status - corrected; S Plus - up to date
Notes: Data quality marginal; 12 values flagged 3/4 and probably
should have been more
Closed cell titration with Gran linearization. Calibrated with
Tris buffer in 0.5M NaCl. No CRM.
Deep values are uniformly lower than neighboring TTO values by
~20umol/kg. The shallow water alk values are similarly lower,
but also show a somewhat different salinity dependence.
There are some very strange relatively shallow values
(in P and S space) which have not been flagged,
but are probably questionable. Precision 9-15umol/kg.
L. Anderson has more (and better Alk data) for this cruise.
fCO2: Who - ; Status - not measured; S Plus -

Autogenerated CTD salinity and CTD oxygen update
Automated update! This overwrites adjustment values (and flags) of CTDoxy and
CTDsal with the values from BOTsal and BOToxy for every cruise, unless CTDsal
(or CTDoxy) is not present or bad.
Salinity action ID:6; CTD salinity data good, setting CTD salinity offset and QC
flag to bottle values.
Oxygen action ID:3; no CTD oxygen data. Setting CTD oxygen offset to -999, QC
flag removed.

58AA19940203 - tco2
The inversion analysis suggested that these data were too high. See Nordic Seas
tco2 summary document at http://carboocean.ifm-geomar.de/postings/list. I
suggest that the data are labeled poor since:
1. This was really not a chemistry cruise and only a few stations in the
northern Greenland Sea has data.
2. Alkalinity data are bad, and the nutrients were questionable. tco2 data are
therefore of limited value.

58AA19940203 - alkalinity
The data show extreme scatter, very unrealistic, and I recommend that they are
labeled poor. See Nordic Sea alkalinity summary document at

as well as figure below.
These data had actually been suggested to be flagged 3 in readme from Bob Key as
well

We find therefore no justifiable method to adjust these data. Thus, to get a
