The inversion suggest a correction of -2.8 and the mean of the crossovers is
1.1. CARINA suggest that no adjustment is applied and also GLODAP did not apply
any adjustment.
We suggest that no adjustment is applied.

74DI19940219 - salinity
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is +0.9 ppm.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests no significant adjustment (-1.0 +/-7.3
ppm).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
6 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is -2.2 (+/-8.1)
ppm.
5 cross overs show no significant differences (<5 ppm) and involve cruises that
are thought to have no significant offset in salinity. This suggests that no
adjustment would be required.
Note that the other cross over, which indicates an offset of 18.5 (+/-10.3) ppm,
involves the cruise 35MF20040103 which is thought to have high salinity values.
This supports no adjustment.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for salinity.

1.02.
We follow the suggestion from CARINA and suggest an adjustment of 1.02.

GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 0.968.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that an adjustment of 1.02 could be
required (1.021 +/-0.022).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
6 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is 0.967 (+/-0.013).
Only 1 cross over shows no significant differences (<2%), being still close to
this limit (1.019 +/-0.016) and involves the cruise 74DI19930206 which is
thought to have no offset in phosphate. The other cross overs indicate offsets
ranging from 1.026 to 1.053, all involving cruises that are thought to have high
phosphate values. When the suggested offsets are taken into account the average
of all cross overs is 0.984 (+/-0.004). This suggests that an adjustment of 1.02
could be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest an adjustment of 1.02 for phosphate.

The inversion suggest a correction of 1.02 and the mean of the crossovers is
0.98. CARINA suggest that no adjustment is applied and GLODAP applied no
adjustment. The crossover analysis is inconclusive and we suggest to follow the
recommendations by CARINA and GLODAP, i.e. that no adjustment is applied.

GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 0.981.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that an adjustment of 1.03 could be
required (1.028 +/-0.014).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
6 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is 0.989 (+/-0.017).
4 cross overs show no significant differences (<2%) and all 4 cross overs but 1
(with cruise 74DI19950106) involve cruises that are thought to have no offset in
nitrate. This suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses disagree, the global inversion suggesting that
an adjustment of 1.03 could be required whereas the regional analysis suggests
no adjustment. The latter is preferred because of the larger uncertainty
attached to the global inversion compared to the regional analysis.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for nitrate.

74DI19940219 - silicate
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 0.943.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that an adjustment of 0.98 could be
required (0.979 +/-0.021).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
6 cross overs were analyzed, but 1 of them is discarded due to large uncertainty
(with cruise 74DI19950106). The average of the 5 considered cross overs is 0.942
(+/-0.038).
Only 1 cross over shows an offset lower than 2% but the associated uncertainty
is large (with cruise INDIGO1). The other cross overs indicate offsets ranging
from 1.027 to 1.116 and 2 of them involve cruises that are thought to have high
silicate values. When the suggested offsets are taken into account the average
of all cross overs is 0.981 (+/-0.007). This suggests that an adjustment of 1.02
could be required.
CONCLUSION:
The result of the global inversion is not coherent with the result of individual
cross overs from the global analysis (see Cruise plot file: RC_SO). Because the
latter is supported by the regional analysis, it is likely that the inversion
has failed here. Based on this I suggest an adjustment of 1.02 for silicate

We suggest to follow the recommendation from CARINA and apply an adjustment of
1.01.

74DI19940219 - oxygen
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 1.018.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that an adjustment of 1.02 could be
required (1.019 +/-0.008).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
6 cross overs were analyzed, but 1 of them is discarded due to large uncertainty
(with cruise 35MF20040103). The average of the 5 considered cross overs is 0.982
(+/-0.021).
3 cross overs show no significant differences (<1%) and involve cruises that are
thought to have no offset in oxygen. The 2 others indicate offsets of 0.986
(+/-0.008) with the cruise INDIGO1 and 0.945 (+/-0.009) with the cruise
74DI19930206 and only the latter cruise is thought to have high oxygen values.
When the suggested offset is taken into account the average of the 5 cross overs
is 0.991 (+/-0.004). This suggests that an adjustment of 1.01 could be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses suggest that an adjustment would be required,
but they result in slightly different numbers (1.02 and 1.01 respectively). The
lowest adjustment is preferred because of the larger uncertainty attached to the
global inversion compared to the regional analysis.
Based on this I suggest an adjustment of 1.01 for oxygen.

74DI19940219 - cfc12
Clear divergence in surface saturations, with 115% for CFC11 and 87% for CFC12.
The relationships show some spread in the data, but there seem to be an offset,
similar to the DI cruise in 1993. Comparing with that cruise, and other cruises
near in space and time (e.g. 35MF19930123) suggest close to full surface
saturation. Thus we recommend an adjustment of CFC12 of 1.15.

74DI19940219 - phosphate

74DI19940219 - nitrate
