74DI20041103 - salinity
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is +1.0 ppm.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests no significant adjustment (+1.9 +/-7.4
ppm).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
5 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is -0.4 (+/-1.4)
ppm.
All cross overs show no significant differences (<5 ppm) and involve cruises
that are thought to have no significant offset in salinity. This suggests that
no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for salinity.

74DI20041103 - tco2
GLOBAL ANALYSIS:
No good cross over (< 3 stations for one or the two cruises).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
Only 2 cross overs were analyzed with cruises 74DI20041213 and INDIGO3 which
have only 1 or 2 deep TCO2 profiles to be compared to this cruise. This makes
the comparison highly uncertain.
1 cross over shows no significant differences (-1.2 +/-1.9 umol/kg), but
involves the cruise 74DI20041213 which is thought to have slightly high TCO2
values (by 4 to 9 umol/kg).This suggests that the cruise could also have
slightly high TCO2 values .
The other cross over shows a difference of -7.9 umol/kg with the cruise INDIGO3
(INDIGO3 minus this one). The cruise INDIGO3 is known to have high TCO2 values
(by about 5-6 umol/kg according to this study and GLODAP). This suggests a
larger offset (13-14 umol/kg) than the one derived from the other cross over
(4-9 umol/kg).
CONCLUSION:
The cross over with cruise INDIGO3 is given low confidence because part of the
difference may reflect a real signal. The lowest adjustment suggested by the
other cross over is preferred.
Based on this I suggest an adjustment of -4 umol/kg for TCO2.

74DI20041103 - phosphate
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 1.031.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that an adjustment of 0.97 could be
required (0.973 +/-0.028).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
5 cross overs were analyzed, but 1 of them is discarded due to large uncertainty
(with cruise 74DI19950106). The average of the 4 considered cross overs is 1.029
(+/-0.018).
Only 1 cross over shows significant differences (<2%) and involves the cruise
INDIGO3 which is thought to have high phosphate values. The other cross overs
indicate an offset around 1.03, which suggests that an adjustment of 0.97 could
be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest an adjustment of 0.97 for phosphate.

74DI20041103 - silicate
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 1.109.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that an adjustment of 0.87 could be
required (0.866 +/-0.025).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
5 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is 1.125 (+/-0.069).
All cross overs suggests that the cruise would have high silicate values. Only 1
cross over involves a cruise that is thought to have no significant offset in
silicate (cruise 74DI19930206) and indicates an offset of 1.106 (+/-0.032). When
the offsets suggested for cruises 74DI19940219 and 74DI20041213 are taken into
account the average of the 3 cross overs is 1.102 (+/-0.007). This suggests that
an adjustment of 0.90 could be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses suggest that an adjustment would be required,
but they result in slightly different numbers (0.87 and 0.90, respectively). The
lowest adjustment is preferred.
Based on this I suggest an adjustment of 0.90 for silicate.

74DI20041103 - oxygen
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 0.991.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests that an adjustment of 1.01 could be
required (1.010 +/-0.007).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
5 cross overs were analyzed. The average of all cross overs is 0.992 (+/-0.023).
4 cross overs show no significant differences (<1%) and all but 1 (with cruise
74DI19940219) involve cruises that are thought to have no significant offset in
oxygen. This suggests that no adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses disagree, the global inversion suggesting that
a small adjustment could be required. However it is not warranted due to the
large uncertainty attached to this result (1.010 +/-0.007). Moreover, the result
of the global inversion is not coherent with the analysis of individual cross
overs (see Cruise plot file: RC_SO). Because the latter is supported by the
regional analysis, it is likely that the inversion has failed here.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for oxygen.

74DI20041103 - nitrate
GLOBAL ANALYSIS (Cruise plot file: RC_SO):
The average of all cross overs is 1.012.
The global inversion (WDLSQ) suggests no significant adjustment (1.005
+/-0.027).
REGIONAL ANALYSIS:
5 cross overs were analyzed, but 1 of them is discarded due to large uncertainty
(with cruise INDIGO3). The average of the 4 considered cross overs is 1.009
(+/-0.017).
3 cross overs show no significant differences (<2%) and involve cruises that are
thought to have no significant offset in nitrate. This suggests that no
adjustment would be required.
CONCLUSION:
The global and regional analyses agree.
Based on this I suggest no adjustment for nitrate.
